Before you book

A map rating is not the public register

Stars and reviews do not say whether a person is registered in Ontario. Use the public register for that, and read a public notice if the register has one.

Five dots in a row, set apart from a list with one check

A rating on a map is a score from people who left a review. It does not say who will treat you, and it does not say whether that person is on the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario public register. A high score and a public notice can exist at the same time. Read the record that answers the question you actually have.

The College's 2024 annual report counted 16,186 registered massage therapists on December 31, 2024. A star does not place a shop inside that count. The College's instruction to the public is Look before you book. In 2024 that campaign sent 80,000 clicks to the public register. The click is the point: open the register, do not stop at a rating.

When a card shows a map link, that link comes from Google. It is not a registration. How to read the register once you open it is in Check the public register before you book.

Use the star for what it is

A review can tell you that a room was clean, that someone waited, or that a visit felt rushed. Those are opinions about a visit. They are useful for that, and useless as a substitute for the register. If the review names a person, search that person. If it only names the business, you still need the name of the person who will treat you. The register matched a business, not every person in the room.

A perfect score also does not sort a spa from registered massage therapy. Those are different offerings, which is How to tell a massage business from an offer of sexual services for the case where the offer is not a massage at all, and Registered massage therapy is not a spa for the ordinary case of two kinds of business.

Leave a rating out of the safety decision

If an ad is hinting at a sexual service, the number of stars does not make it a massage booking. Leave it. If you want a registered massage therapist, the register is the list. Stars can wait until you know whose name is on the record.
